Sully’s Court: All-Americans and All-Sullys
The All-Americans: For once, I agree, at least mostly, with the Associated Press All-American team. The agreement: Jimmer Fredette of BYU, Kemba Walker of UConn, Nolan Smith of Duke, Jared Sullinger of Ohio State. The disagreement: I would have had Derrick Williams of Arizona on first team ahead of Purdue’s JuJuan Johnson. I would come real close to choosing Kawhi Leonard of San Diego State over Nolan Smith but in the end, Johnson and Leonard are second-teamers along with Ben Hansbrough of Notre Dame, Marcus Morris of Kansas and Draymond Green of Michigan State.
All-Sully: The All-Sully team is for players I have a deep affection for, usually unselfish players but I also have a weakness for gunners like Jimmer Fredette. This year’s All-Sully is
Jimmer Fredette, BYU: What a great gunner, a scoring machine could find open teammates too. I hate the late backlash against him by BCS types. He’s the national player of the year.
Draymond Green, Michigan State: Smartest player in the America, just knows how to play a total game of basketball.
Trevor Mbakwe, Minnesota: A real throwback who knows how to play the game near the basket.
Devon Beitzel, Northern Colorado: The poor man’s Jimmer with a lethal, aggressive, yet under-control game.
Matthew Dellavedova of Saint Mary’s: Aussie, Aussie, Aussie. I just love his pell-mell approach to offense, full-speed ahead.
Next season: The All-Sully team could very likely include Joshua Smith of UCLA, Jason Brickman of LIU, Jack Cooley of Notre Dame. Marcus Jordan of Central Florida, and D.J. Cooper of Ohio.
How I did: The results of my NCAA predictions made on Nov. 12. I was only able to get 38 of the final 68. I did poorly on the one-bid leagues, getting only three right out of 21 plus I had the CAA getting only one bid and that was James Madison. I gave two bids to Conference USA.
