State football championships to stay in Orlando, Lakeland keeps hoops
Amidst all the chaos of St. Thomas Aquinas-De La Salle week, a little bit of interesting news got buried. So we’ll bring it back here…
Last week, the Florida High School Association announced that it has finalized contracts with 12 venues to host state championship events.
Most notably? Football, which has been played at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl in recent seasons, will stay at the same venue through the 2013 season. Basketball, always a favorite in Lakeland, will stay at the Lakeland Center through 2014 as well.
Negotiations are still ongoing as to where three state tournaments–softball, lacrosse, and water polo will be played, but it looks like those contracts should be finalized soon and if they are, softball will remain at the National Training Center in Clermont, while lacrosse will be played at West Orange High in Winter Garden and water polo will be played at Ransom Everglades in Miami.
