Jacoby Brissett picks Florida Gators, mom isn’t pleased
Palm Beach Gardens Much to the dismay of his mother, Dwyer All-American quarterback Jacoby Brissett announced Friday night before his basketball game he will sign with Florida. Brissett, the nation’s third-rated quarterback, said his decision came down to Miami and Florida, and he changed his mind “25 times” the past few days. “It came I just had to follow my heart and my heart lied at Florida,” Brissett said. He said he will sign his National letter-of-intent and fax it to UF on Saturday. His mother, Lisa Brown, said he will not sign a National letter-of-intent until Monday. And she said she as well as his cousin, UM receiver Travis Benjamin — will try to change his mind before then.

“Nah, I’m pretty set on my decision,” Brissett said. Brown said while she liked UF offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, coach Will Muschamp was “disrespectful” in not talking to her during the recruiting. “I didn’t like the way Florida handled the process,” Brown said. “All the other coaches took the time to come and meet me. Will never did. I never met him face to face. And I find that very disrespectful. I’m just hurt by the whole process.” Brown said she believes the fact Matt Elam, Brissett’s best friend since he was 6 years old, plays for the Gators “really swayed him.” Two other former teammates of Brissett, tight end Gerald Christian and receiver Robert Clark, also play at Florida. Brissett said Elam told him to sign with whichever school he wanted. Brown said her son told her of his decision at 5 p.m. Friday by text message because he knew she’d be hurt. Brissett and his mom both cried while they hugged as he waited to walk on the court with her for Senior Night ceremonies before Dwyer’s game against Jupiter. He was the last senior honored. He then got the microphone, and with everyone awaiting his announcement, joked that he would be forfeiting his grades to return to Dwyer for another year. Then he made his real announcement. “That’s my mom. I love her no matter what. But it came down to making the decision I felt was best for me,” Brissett said. “I can’t please everybody. I’m hurt that I hurt my mom.”
