Spring football: Cocoa vs. Dr. Phillips

Kickoff for the Cocoa vs. Dr. Phillips spring football game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The bad news is the weather doesn’t look good at the moment. An official here who just checked the weather said thunderstorms are predicted for right around the planned start of this game. Let’s hope not.

I should mention that I am at Dr. Phillips High School. And if you haven’t been here before — this is my first time — it’s right across from Universal Studios. Looking out the press box window, I see the Harry Potter ride.

Due to weather , the game will be started early. Kickoff should be about 7:05 or 7:10 p.m.

Be sure to wave at Bo Brown!

Cocoa won the toss and has deferred. Dr. Phillips will receive the ball.

Dr. Phillips goes three plays and out and punts. The Tigers take over at their 46.

Cocoa, leading 14-7, is moving right down the field. Lee ran for 17 yards, followed by a Dr. Phillips personal foul. The Tigers now have the ball at the Panthers’ 12-yard line. Time out, Dr. Phillips. There is 7:38 to play in the first half, and the weather is getting nastier.

After Folston slipped and ran for no gain, Lorenzo Pratt, who will be a sophomore in the fall, ran it in from 12 yards out. Adams added the extra point and Cocoa leads Dr. Phillips 21-7 with 6:55 remaining in the second quarter.

Lee recovered the fumble on the kickoff and Cocoa takes over on Dr. Phillips 33.

And the rain sends the fans scurrying for cover!

Cocoa now down to the 10.

Immediately after Cocoa’s last touchdown, play was suspended due to lightning in the area. So, we’ll take a break and see what happens.

The game has now been cancelled. That’s all, folks.
