Fantastic evening for a football game. Well, what do you know?!? We are about 40 minutes from football at Cocoa Beach, and this should be a dandy. The Minutemen have a big young quarterback in David Dessent, and Heritage has a load of young talent, including running back Dedric Witherspoon, who was hurt at practice on Thursday but said he’d play. We’ll see. The concession stand just opened, so I’m heading down for a drink and a snack.

FIRST QUARTER
Cocoa Beach scores first. A big pass from David Dessent to Chris Sullivan moves the ball past midfield, and Mike Yonker scores from the 19 almost two minutes into the game. SCORE: Cocoa Beach 6, Heritage 0.
Heritage fumbles and the Minutemen add another TD, a 9-yard pass from Dessent to Sullivan. SCORE: Cocoa Beach 13, Heritage 0.
We’re going to have some scoring apparently. A 71-yard passing touchdown for Heritage. I’ll have to get the names later. SCORE: Cocoa Beach 13, Heritage 7.

SECOND QUARTER
A Heritage fumble gives Cocoa Beach the ball at the 4, and Mike Yonker scores from the 3. SCORE: Cocoa Beach 20, Heritage 7. Heritage’s Scott Willis takes a handoff behind the left tackle and goes 80 yards for a TD. Good speed. SCORE: Cocoa Beach 20, Heritage 14. Cocoa Beach ran a nice little two-minute drill . Dessent hits Antoine Griffin in the end zone from 14 yards out. SCORE: Cocoa Beach 27, Heritage 14. With seconds to play, Willis goes 65 yards for a TD for Heritage. The first TD, by the way, was Clinton Moxam to Garrett Rock for the Panthers. SCORE: Cocoa Beach 27, Heritage 20. It’s halftime.

THIRD QUARTER
Cocoa Beach was moving the ball nicely when a hit popped the ball up in the air. Shane Jones caught it in stride on the east sideline and went 65 yards for a tying touchdown. SCORE: Heritage 27, Cocoa Beach 27.

FOURTH QUARTER
Dedric Witherspoon picked up a fumble and ran 35 yards for a touchdown. SCORE: Heritage 34, Cocoa Beach 27. Dessent led the Minutemen downfield on the strength of a 47-yard pass to Griffin. CB had a first-and-goal at the 3, and the big QB took it in himself from the 1. Then, a two-point pass to Jamaal Eveillard. SCORE: Cocoa Beach 35, Heritage 34. An interception seals the game for Cocoa Beach.
